Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre

Just a few minutes walk from the Dart station in Dalkey, the Castle and Heritage Centre – which incorporates Goat Castle, St Begnet’s Church and Graveyard and the Heritage Centre) is a fun place to visit. Be warned, though, that there are plenty of stairs to negotiate in the Castle so if climbing stone staircases is a problem, this may not be the place for you. For anyone else, though, this is good entertainment. Actors on the site explain the history of the castle and engage with visitors in a really entertaining way. We particularly enjoyed a tour of the graveyard with our ghostly guide before finding ourselves at the tender mercy of her murderous sister, the barber surgeon in the castle itself. Her archer accomplice accompanied us to the battlements where there are good views across to Killiney. Admission was 4 euro for a child, 5 euro for a senior, and 6 euro for an adult. A family rate of 16 euro was also available. Check out the castle for yourself at http://www.dalkeycastle.com/
