There is something about Abbeyleix that will make you want to stop and have a walk around. It is an attractive and striking Irish heritage town with a number of buildings dating from the 19th century.
The buildings look planned, a little austere, and beautifully crafted. It’s quite startling to compare the quality and style of these older buildings with more recent construction around Ireland. I love the street lights which seem in keeping with the character of the town.
Coffee shops offering homemade scones and cakes will surely tempt you. On Saturday mornings you may find a market adding to the attraction of the town and just up the road you’ll find the Rathdowney Shopping Outlets.
