Jealousy and revenge are the key themes highlighted in this somewhat unusual house which is reputed to be haunted.
Although impressive from a distance, Belvedere House feels quite small when you go inside. There is a rather gruesome story of a wife who was locked up here by her husband and whose ghost now haunts the house. Perhaps it is just knowing that story that gives Belevedere house a somewhat claustrophobic feel.
Outside, the gardens at Belevedere House offer good walks, including a Narnia trail that will appeal to children familiar with the CS Lewis books. There is also a pretty walled garden.
Belevedere House is famous for its ‘follies’ and ‘jealous wall‘.
On a fine day it would be possible to put in quite a few hours exploring the grounds of Belvedere House. There is plenty of parking and a coffee shop on the site.
