Burial place of William Butler Yeats

Drumcliffe is just a short drive outside Sligo town and the churchyard where William Butler Yeats is buried is easy to find. There is a good car park and there is a small art gallery and cafe. The churchyard is beautiful – simple, old-fashioned and peaceful – in a scenic setting beneath Ben Bulben.

The Yeats grave is close to the church entrance and is clearly marked so you will have no difficulty locating it. The church itself, St Columba’s, is very pretty in a simple, Anglican style. The interior is a wonderful space and the inscription on the east wall reads “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”.

Incidentally, if you are visiting Drumcliffe in the spring time, watch out for details of the Drumcliffe Music Festival.
