Driving around the countryside close to Carlow town we came across Milford Mill. This is a very scenic location and would be a good spot for a picnic. We parked on the main road and strolled in across the grass to get a better view of the mill.
Originally a grain mill, Milford Mill is situated on the River Barrow and is about 7 kilometres from Carlow town. From the end of the nineteenth century it was used to generate electricity.
Not too far further on from Milford Mill, there is an easy forest walk at Clogrennane Woods which has some good views through the trees across to Carlow town and the surrounding countryside.
Other places of interest in this general area include Carlow town and Altamont Gardens.
