The Hill of Tara lies just a couple of km off the main N3/M3 Dublin/Navan road.
Once the seat of the High Kings of Ireland, what remains of those days at the Hill of Tara now lies hidden beneath the turf.
The site is large and provides good views of the surrounding countryside. There is free parking and access to the Hill of Tara itself is also free unless you opt for a guided tour or choose to pay to view a film in the Visitor Centre.
Although far from fit, I found the walking manageable but care would be needed if the grass was wet. A well-stocked gift shop and cafe on the site of the Hill of Tara are also worth a visit.
